OPENING NIGHT! That’s right under lights! This time live from the Servpro Pavilion concert series @ Meadow Event Park in Doswell Va. First off, this show was SOLD OUT! I’m not just saying this how like I usually say "SOLD OUT" for sport, It was actually sold out. On their website you could not purchase any tickets at all. Luckily my friend "Cons" decided he didn’t wanna go so I was able to use his. I kinda wanted to go to River Rock that day, because I knew I couldn’t go the next day or Sunday. But a sold out show vs something that happens every year…......I know what I had to do!

Oliver Anthony became huge back in summer 2023 with his hit song “Richmen North of Richmond” Well that’s exactly where we were at that evening. Right over the Hanover line in Caroline Country (think exit 104 cheapest gas on  I95) So without traffic its about 30 mins from Richmond and 60 mins from Northern VA. It’s actually right next to Kings Dominion, a mile or two east so really close. Free parking which I’ll always be grateful for. That being said traffic going in and out wasn’t the best. You can actually see some of the rides at Kings Dominion from the lot and lawn so that’s cool. This was also my first time here so it was new for me. I believe before covid this place wasn’t used for this kinda stuff. So all of these shows were at Insbrook after hours out west of the city in Henrico I believe. I never went to Insbrook so if I’m wrong…EXPOSE ME!

I went by myself. I love going to all types of concerts etc and not to make this political but you can imagine it was mostly white conservatives. I saw one black dude there. Oliver Anthony I believe is from Farmville VA as well. #LocalsOnly But this venue sucks ass. My dad and brother had gone here back in summer 2023 and told me about it. It was very big and square shaped. Pretty much flat with a big stage at one end. The part that really sucked was the sound setup right in the middle, blocking some of the most optimal viewing. Like the size you would see for a big stadium show so the view behind that obviously was bad. As well as most of the General Admission views. They had two smaller screens on the sides but only the one stage right was up working. I didn’t see the opener but Oliver played from about 20:25 to about 22:15. So decant time for the headliner. He played guitar and sang. He had 3 other musicians with him. However no drums or keys which are my favorite so without those I really lose interest. Only one backdrop visual behind the band.

Again folk/bluegrass or whatever really isn’t my favorite but ill respect good musicianship etc and that was definitely shown throughout. There were no water refilling stations and I think they had some makeshift handwashing stations. But no real bathrooms so again big minus in my book. The view from outside was even better. Looking through a chain fence which some people did in their chairs. Sold out or not that’s the move. I never plan on coming here again, it sucks as a venue. If I do I’m not paying and sitting out stage left and observing for free. People were leaving before 9pm and walking out. Most people seemed to not even be paying attention to the show anyway inside. Oliver & Neil Young both in their shows didn’t make it to political and kept the talking to reasonable chatter. Each of them kept the music flowing which I loved!
